It is extremely valuable for teachers to integrate Web2.0
into the classroom; I think that Web 2.0 such as twitters and wikis are vital
to students because they force kids to interact with each other’s work instead
of just hiding behind the screen. In addition they allow for collaborative
thinking and also interaction with credited authors and other well-known
people. I think that the best Web2.0 for professional development is a blog.
Blogs help students write out their thoughts but they also have to be proper
and professional because this information will be out on the web. However, it is also necessary that the
schools are equipped with the proper equipment to utilize the Web 2.0 programs to their
full ability. It is important when
having students using computers that all the computers are have proper CD drive
and USB ports. These allow for programs to be put on the devices and also
allows for students to save their work through flash drives. Furthermore, more
modern computers are ideal because they have fast processing systems and LCD displays,
which means they will run smoother and clearer, and thus student will not get
frustrated with as many glitches and more students will be able to have access to the web.
SimpleVLE is a virtual classroom and learning environment. Much
like Edmodo it allows teachers to post test assignments and grades. This Web
2.0 programs also allows teachers to create graphs and illustrate student performances.
In addition, this program is available to students through multiple devices so
they can do there assignments virtual anywhere through an Ipad or Iphone. I
think that this would be an excellent program for older students because it is
more visually pleasing and manageable than blackboard.
As opposed to Edmodo this programs lacks a class page that
allows teachers to post discussion and get kids interacting. It is more related
to blackboard in that it tracks and illustrates performance and progress. Although
I enjoyed this site I do not think it would be suitable for younger kids. To be
honest I think that there are still better sites out there but they all are
very well-known I wanted to find one that was unique. This site is a great
start to a Web 2.0 but it could also be expanded upon greatly.
I thoroughly enjoyed the imagination concept mapping assignment.
I think that this would be a great program for student, including myself, to
study with. It allows you to not only learn the concepts but to break them down
and see how these concepts connect. Through this assignment I learned the how
to manage this imagination program, some of the basic skills were changing
bubbles, adding pictures, maneuvering concepts. Much like most educational and
design programs, this program is what you make of it; it allows students to do
a basic map or can get extremely complicated. One thing that I dislike about
programs like this and struggle with is that I have a much different picture in
my head then what show up on the screen and it is usually very difficult to
maneuver the program to match what I truly wanted to make. Next time I would
want to experiment more with trying to find different concept bubbles because I
didn’t like the ones that were provided easily.
Good job integrating the podcast and textbook. I don't know how necessary cd drives are for students, but at least one computer in a classroom needs a CD burner. I use mine all the time in the school setting. Yes to USB ports!
ReplyDeleteThank you for finding a unique web 2.0 tool. Although as you said it is limited, we can learn from non-examples as well.
